Dane Yates is composer and collaborator focusing on electroacoustic practices and the relationship between music, dance, theatre and film. His work focuses on the organic and the subversion of subject, resulting in internationally commissioned works and multiple releases on Australian labels. Dane has continually collaborated with dance and movement based works through Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and dance companies Sydney Dance Company, STRUT Dance Company, Lewis Major Projects and Co3 as well as leading independent choreographers across Australia.

Dane’s music has been featured internationally in the 2018 and 2019 Hong Kong International Choreographic Festival, TalentLAB#19 (Luxembourg), The Place (London) as well as being nationally recognised in award winning works across Fringe Festivals and notably Perth Festival. Dane has been commissioned by Decibel New Music Ensemble, Greywing Trio, State Library of Western Australia, Subiaco Arts Centre and the Western Australian Laptop Orchestra. Dane has undertaken residence at the Grand Theatre de la Ville de Luxembourg (2019), Bundanon Artist in Residence Program (2018), Vancouver Art Centre (2018), and Narrogin Arts Centre (2016) as well as awarded mentorship and collaboration with Hofesh Shechter, Nick Wales and James Brown.

Dane has also launched and managed a tape label Second Iteration Tapes, releasing music and sound art initially used within multidisciplinary and collaborative works since 2017. Dane’s collaboration with film has led to screenings around Australia and internationally, including an award winning score in the 2016 Revelation Film Festival (WA) for “Revelation Award for Best Music Soundtrack”. Dane currently holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in composition and music technology through WAAPA.
